Expert cover for your loved ones and dependents

Life Cover

Life cover is designed to provide financial support to your loved ones if you die during the policy term. It can help your family manage costs such as household bills, childcare, living expenses or other financial commitments.

The amount of cover, policy length and type of plan you choose will depend on your personal circumstances, budget and protection needs.

Life cover is not a savings or investment product and usually has no cash-in value. If you stop paying your premiums, your cover may end.

Do I need Life Insurance?

Life insurance may be worth considering if you have people who depend on you financially, such as a partner, children or family members.

It can help your loved ones manage costs such as household bills, childcare, debts or everyday living expenses if you die during the policy term.

The right level of cover depends on your personal circumstances, budget and protection needs.

Level Term Life Cover

Level term life cover provides a fixed amount of cover for a set period of time.

This means the amount of cover stays the same throughout the policy term.

It may be suitable if you want to leave your family a fixed lump sum to help with living costs, family protection or other financial commitments.

Decreasing Term Life Cover

Decreasing term life cover provides an amount of cover that reduces over time during the policy term.

It may be suitable where the financial need reduces over time. Mortgage protection is covered separately in our Mortgage Protection section.

Decreasing term cover is usually lower cost than level term cover because the amount of cover reduces during the policy term.

Joint or Separate Life Insurance?

Couples can choose either a joint life insurance policy or separate individual policies.

A joint policy usually covers two people under one plan and normally pays out once, usually after the first person dies. After a valid claim is paid, the policy usually ends.

Separate policies mean each person has their own cover. If one policy pays out, the other person’s policy can continue, provided premiums are still paid and the policy terms are met.

The right option depends on your needs, budget and personal circumstances.

What is Family Income Benefit Cover?

Family Income Benefit is life insurance that can pay a regular income to your loved ones if you die during the policy term.
Rather than paying one lump sum, it can provide monthly or yearly payments to help with everyday costs such as bills, childcare and living expenses.

You may also be able to combine this cover with Critical Illness Cover, depending on the provider and policy chosen.

Cover is subject to eligibility, underwriting, policy terms, conditions and exclusions.
